EXPERIENCE INTERLAKEN, SWITZERLAND
If you’ve ever been lucky enough to visit Interlaken, Switzerland, you’ll know that it’s known for its stunning backdrop of the Swiss Alps, nestled between the gorgeous emerald coloured lakes of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz (hence the name). If, however, you’re still uncertain as to whether to add it to your bucket list or if you’re planning a trip to this incredible resort town soon, then I hope this blog will make you excited or at least convince you to make the move and add it to your bucket list! Check out the exciting and numerous activities that Interlaken has to offer. Whether you’re seeking outdoor thrill adventures or just want to relax on the lakes, Interlaken has something to offer everyone which won’t disappoint. There’s no doubt from us that Interlaken is breathtakingly beautiful and definitely a must see!
CRUISE THE LAKES:
A great way to soak in the views of Interlaken is to take a cruise on either Lake Thun or Lake Brienz. We experienced a spectacular hop on, hop off experience last summer as we sailed the calm waters of Lake Brienz. The surroundings are just picturesque with some magnificent natural features to behold too. The cruise allows you to hop on and hop off as you wish, giving you time to explore some of the amazing towns/villages at your own leisure. We spent a good afternoon exploring the chalet villages, browsing in the local shops and cooling ourselves off by the lake side. With a price of around £70 for 2 people (I think), it really is worth doing, even if it is just to marvel at the mountain scenes.
ENJOY THE VIEWS FROM THE TOP:
Not only can you take in the spectacular views from the water, but why not go up higher and soak in the scenery from the top of the mountains by riding up the funicular to just over 1300 metres above sea level to Harder Kulm. Once at the top, you can soak in the stunning views (even on a 34 degree day, you’ll still see snow on the mountain peaks) and if you’re there at the right time, you’ll get to see/hear some Swiss Folk Music performance. There’s also a restaurant if you want to relax, have a drink or devour some Swiss cheese fondue before making the descent back down. We recommend going up later in the day so that you’re up there to see the sunset.
MAKE YOUR OWN SWISS CHOCOLATE:
You can’t go to Switzerland without making your own chocolate, so if this is something you want to do, then check out The Funky Chocolate Club in the heart of Interlaken. They offer fun workshops that allow you to taste, create and decorate your own chocolate.
It really is a lot of fun and the best bit is that everything you make, you get to keep!
It’s great for couples to do together as well as families or friends.
The workshop was in English so that was great too!
EXPLORE BY FOOT – HIKES/SHORT WALKS
Interlaken is known for doing outdoor activities, so if you’re looking for something cheap to do, then walking/hiking is a must. Interlaken offers numerous hiking trails/circuits for all levels of fitness and duration.
It’s a great way to walk off all the Swiss chocolate you’ve eaten as well as save some extra money. All you need is time!
It’s no doubt that being in the great outdoors is a must when coming to Interlaken. For those seeking more of an adrenaline rush, Interlaken provides paragliding and/or parasailing experiences so you can see this beautiful place from a birds eye view. Whilst I didn’t work up the courage to do this time around, hopefully I will next time.
Alternatively, you can take to the lakes and go rafting, kayaking or canoeing. There really is something for everyone.
